Placeholder data. Every figure on this page is a stand-in until the benchmark runs land. The layout, charts and method are final.

Byte-exact, and fast.

We don't ask you to trust the instant preview. We compare its PDF, byte for byte, with the engines you already use, and we publish how fast it is on real documents.

Byte-exact

The same bytes, every time.

Each document is built by PhiTeX and by the reference engine; the outputs are normalized only for the fields TeX itself varies (creation date, document ID) and then compared with cmp.

Performance

Instant stays instant as documents grow.

A full rebuild grows with the document. PhiTeX's edit grows with the change.

Method

How we measure.

Corpora

TeX Live's own documentation, the TRIP test, and a sample of arXiv sources, frozen by hash. The list is published with the results.

Machines

Named hardware, a quiet machine, the median of 11 runs after 3 warm-ups. Browser figures in Chromium, on the same wasm the extensions ship.

Keystroke → page

From the editor's transaction to the repainted page on screen, measured in the page, not in the core alone.

Reproducible

One command runs it all in a sandbox; the scripts and raw numbers are in the repository.
